Reserves Top Coe-Brown, 2-1

Hanover started out attacking the Coe-Brown goal early and strong for the first three minutes. Coe-Brown then moved the ball into our half and gained a corner. As it was crossed in and bumbled around our net a handball was called on a Hanover player for a penalty kick .The shot was taken and precisely saved and held onto by Ryan O'Rourke. Soon after Coe-Brown got a cross in to an oncoming attacker and Ryan hesitated. making a pass into the net inevitable. It was Coe-Brown 1, Hanover 0 at the 25th minute.

It only took another four minutes for our reply. Matt Couture rushed toward a clearance over the half and blasted it in the opposite direction over running Daniel Slayton who made no contact with the ball but puled the defenders away from Alex Brown who picked it up turned to goal and struck it passed the oncoming Coe-Brown keeper. Mr. Brown has scored in 3 out of 4 games thus far. The half ended without any more real chances or goals.

The second half was dominated by Hanover's midfield with the likes of Sawyer Brooks, Nick D'Orsi, Eben Holbrook, Duncan Piper, and Tor Hathaway. Eight minutes into the 2nd half Tor Hathaway picked up the ball and made his way toward goal. Like in all instances when Tor moves towards goal, the defensive lines parted like the Red Sea. Starting at midfield and crossing into the 18, Tor took a bending strike into the low near post that fooled the Coe-Brown keeper, who unfortunately believed that the shot would go wide. Hanover took the lead, 2-1. Tor Hathaway has also scored two goals in as many games. Possession of the ball secured the lead with second half highlights including an outside the 18 strike from Nick D'Orsi and several attempts from Piper.

In the last thirty seconds Coe-Brown's star striker got a break, passing Daniel Wilson for the first time in the game only to run into the unlikely defensive coupling of Ryan O'Rourke saving the ball and Steve Gofer who covered the open net beautifully to preserve the win in injury time. Mr. Gofer made his debut at left back today and proved he can run for 90 minutes with the big boys of the defensively line on the reserve team of Zach Estes, Matthew Couture, and "The Wall" Daniel Wilson.

The Hanover Boys Soccer Reserve team hosts Hartford High School on Monday September, 23 at 4:30 pm on the Norwich Rte. 5 fields. Congratulations to the team! The Reserve record is now 2-2-0.
