Hanover started out attacking the Coe-Brown goal early and strong for the first three minutes. Coe-Brown then moved the ball into our half and gained a corner. As it was crossed in and bumbled around our net a handball was called on a Hanover player for a penalty kick .The shot was taken and precisely saved and held onto by Ryan O'Rourke. Soon after Coe-Brown got a cross in to an oncoming attacker and Ryan hesitated. making a pass into the net inevitable. It was Coe-Brown 1, Hanover 0 at the 25th minute.
It only took another four minutes for our reply. Matt Couture rushed toward a clearance over the half and blasted it in the opposite direction over running Daniel Slayton who made no contact with the ball but puled the defenders away from Alex Brown who picked it up turned to goal and struck it passed the oncoming Coe-Brown keeper. Mr. Brown has scored in 3 out of 4 games thus far. The half ended without any more real chances or goals.
The second half was dominated by Hanover's midfield with the likes of Sawyer Brooks, Nick D'Orsi, Eben Holbrook, Duncan Piper, and Tor Hathaway. Eight minutes into the 2nd half Tor Hathaway picked up the ball and made his way toward goal. Like in all instances when Tor moves towards goal, the defensive lines parted like the Red Sea. Starting at midfield and crossing into the 18, Tor took a bending strike into the low near post that fooled the Coe-Brown keeper, who unfortunately believed that the shot would go wide. Hanover took the lead, 2-1. Tor Hathaway has also scored two goals in as many games. Possession of the ball secured the lead with second half highlights including an outside the 18 strike from Nick D'Orsi and several attempts from Piper.
In the last thirty seconds Coe-Brown's star striker got a break, passing Daniel Wilson for the first time in the game only to run into the unlikely defensive coupling of Ryan O'Rourke saving the ball and Steve Gofer who covered the open net beautifully to preserve the win in injury time. Mr. Gofer made his debut at left back today and proved he can run for 90 minutes with the big boys of the defensively line on the reserve team of Zach Estes, Matthew Couture, and "The Wall" Daniel Wilson.
The Hanover Boys Soccer Reserve team hosts Hartford High School on Monday September, 23 at 4:30 pm on the Norwich Rte. 5 fields. Congratulations to the team! The Reserve record is now 2-2-0.

Hanover Tops Plymouth 5-0; Now 4-0-1
The Marauders used all 25 healthy players on the roster to beat a young Plymouth team 5-0 Tuesday afternoon on the sun-splashed Merriman-Branch turf. Every one of the 23 field players played for at least 10 minutes in each half, and despite the potential that this might have resulted in disjointed play, Hanover cruised smoothly, outshooting the visitors 24-2 and showing none of the difficulty finishing that had characterized the three previous matches.
Ben Harris got things off on the right foot in the ninth minute of play, taking a well-made pass that Nate Hanna curled over the Plymouth back line and cruising in on goal unmolested, slotting the ball past Bobcat goalkeeper Matt Abear for a 1-0 lead. Five minutes later, Joe Carey scored his first regular-season goal of the campaign, taking a deft pass from Eric Jayne deep in the box and ringing a shot off the left post to double the advantage. The Marauder lead became an unsurmountable 3-0 at the twenty-minute mark when Sam Farnham's corner kick was bobbled by Abear and Gunar Shaw was in the right place to last the rebound into the back of the net for his second goal of the year.
Hanover's defense was airtight, limiting Plymouth to one tepid shot on Sam Gest. When Shaw, Remillard, Hanna and Barth departed to give way to Chris Tecca, Robin Smith, Charlie Umland and Connor Bentivoglio, the level of defensive play remained similarly high.
The Marauders had several more chances to score in the half, notably when a breakaway by Jonathan Fenton got away from him just enough for Abear to scoot off his line and collect it, and again when Isaiah Fariel just missed connecting on a good opportunity.
The second half was a carbon copy of the first, featuring seamless play despite the steady parade of substitutes off the bench. Isaiah Fariel opened his account for the season with seven minutes gone, collecting the rebound of a testing shot by Eric Jayne and stuffing it past the luckless Abear from close range. Jayne then tallied his fifth goal in five games, heading home a long cross by Joe Carey from the right corner. Forrest Pratt and Hayden Pressey-Murray were effective all day on the flanks, hitting several excellent crosses that deserved finishing.
As was the case in the first half, several subs came close to getting on the board. Both Pedro Celaya and Brendan Barth authored shots that didn't miss the mark by much, and Fenton came close again from short range, having taken one touch too many on a slick pass from Barth. Chris Tecca was particularly effective on defense, choosing the right moments to step and challenge successfully for the ball, and heading with authority. Ross Johnston was a calm and effective presence at center midfield, and Charlie Umland made a series of good defensive plays in his own end. Stefan Dyroff wasn't challenged in goal, but showed good timing getting off his line on several through balls.
With their record now 4-0-1, the Marauders will devote the next week preparing for their biggest challenge yet this season, a road game to Lebanon six days hence. The Raiders will in all likelihood enter the game with a 6-0 record and the confidence that they can end a long losing streak at Hanover's hands. With both teams likely to go far in postseason play, the match will be a good indicator as to how a potential tournament match might turn out. "We know what we have to do to get ready," commented Coach Grabill, "and we're set to put in a hard week." Stay tuned.

JV Beats Plymouth 8-0 to remain Undefeated
The Junior Varsity had an easy time of it against a young Plymouth squad on Tuesday, taking a 5-0 lead by halftime and cruising to an 8-0 victory to push their record to 5-0 on the season. Alex Dodds gave the Marauders the only goal they would need to open the scoring, followed by an unassisted strike from Zach Taylor. Ian Strohbehn then struck for a brace, assisted by Ryan Brigham and Daniel Hernandez. Jacob LaPoint wrapped up the first half scoring, assisted by Drake Greenwood. Connor Gordon opened the second half scoring, assisted by Dodds, and then LaPoint struck for his second score of the afternoon on Taylor's helper. The lanky Lyme-ite then earned his second assist on the day on Chris Stephens' goal, rounding out the scoring.
Andrew Brown went the distance in goal to record the shutout, backing up an outstanding defensive performance by Ben Manning, Jay Mobilia, Daniel Osheyack and Basel Dashti. The Marauders now wait a week until next Tuesday's showdown with Lebanon.

Reserves Lose a 5-4 Shootout to Bedford
The HHS Reserve team played well against a skilled team from Bedford High School, losing 5-4 in a wild shootout that saw each team score three times in the second half. Bedford dominated play in the first half, and held a 2-1 lead , with Alex Brown recording the Marauder tally. Three times in the second half, Hanover would tie the score, only to have Bedford jump back into the lead, their final score coming with only seconds left in the match. Tor Hathaway's goal tied the match at 2-2, and Ryan O'Rourke scored one of the best goals of the season the knot the scoreline at 3-3. After Bedford went ahead yet again, a great solo effort by Daniel Slayton evened things at 4-4 before Bedford's last-minute heartbreaker. Hanover's next match is a road game at Coe-Brown Academy in Northwood on Wednesday.
